Exit Exam Result 2018
The first Ethiopian university exit exam was conducted in 2023. The examination policy was introduced by the Ministry of Education (MoE) under the leadership of Education Minister Prof. Berhanu Nega as a measure to enhance the quality of higher education. According to the Ministry of Education (MOE), over 150,000 students took the first online test.
The primary purpose of the Exit exam is to improve the quality of higher education. Regardless of their university, it sets a baseline of knowledge and skills that all graduates must demonstrate. The Exit Exam is offered twice a year to accommodate the academic calendar and provide students with multiple opportunities.
The Main Exam is conducted in July, at the end of the first year of graduation. The second examination is in February. This helps mid-year graduates and is a re-examination chance for those who need to retake it.
Students in Ethiopia who wish to earn a bachelor’s degree must register and take the Exit Exam in their final year of study. Whether a student is in engineering, medicine, business, the social sciences, education, or any other discipline, they must undergo this examination.
Last year, the Ministry of Education (MOE) announced the results of the Private Higher Education Institutions Exit Exam on August 30, 2024. The examination was successfully conducted in 244 programs in 57 public and 124 private higher education institutions.

Exit Exam Grading System
The Exit Exam is scored on a percentage scale (0–100%). After the results are published, the Ministry determines the minimum passing score, also known as the cut-off. In general, the mini cut-off percentage is 50%. Students who score above the cut-off marks are considered to pass the Exit exam.
The grading is essentially Pass/Fail based on that cutoff rather than a tiered letter grade. However, the Ministry of Education made it clear to the students that if any of them did not qualify for the exit exam, they would not receive the bachelor’s degree. Students who fail the Exit Exam are given unlimited chances to retake it.
Result Statistics
According to the Ministry, 150,184 prospective graduate students from 205 different disciplines across 48 public and 171 private higher education institutions in Ethiopia took the exams last year, with a pass percentage of 40.65. In 2023, only 40.65% of the 150k+ examinees passed, underscoring the exam’s difficulty.
Conclusion:
The exit exam in Ethiopia is also connected with the PG admission. Thus, the exam is a gatekeeper to employment and any educational step beyond the bachelor’s level. In conclusion, a student who passes the exit exam can obtain a graduate degree and progress to higher education. Join Our Telegram For all Updates
