    (≈ 18–20 June 2025).

Last year, the South Ethiopia Regional State’s Education Bureau released the 2016 E.C. Grade 8 regional exam results in mid-August 2024. A total of 122,719 students (from government, private, distance, and evening programs) sat for the Grade 8 exam in the region.

According to Dr. Abebayehu Tadesse, the bureau head, 42.5% of these candidates achieved the pass mark, meaning they scored at or above the required threshold. T

his pass rate indicates that roughly 52,000+ students qualified for promotion to secondary school. Notably, 164 primary schools in the region achieved 100% pass rates, with all their Grade 8 students passing.

On the other hand, the bureau identified schools with weak performance and announced plans to address those challenges in the next academic year. T

South Ethiopia Ministry Grade 6 Result 2017

Last year, 2016 E.C., also marked the first-ever regional Grade 6 examination in South Ethiopia, introduced as part of Ethiopia’s new education roadmap. The Grade 6 exam, conducted in early June 2024, had approximately 95,763 registered examinees across the region.

The results were announced in late August 2024 (Pagume 3, 2016 E.C.) by regional education officials. About 49% of Grade 6 students earned a passing score (with 50% or higher), falling just short of the 50% benchmark the bureau had aimed for. In other words, roughly half of the Grade 6 students in the region qualified to move on to Grade 7.

The Grade 6 exam now serves as the Primary School Leaving Examination, determining progression to the next cycle of education.

Cut-off marks

The regional passing score was set at 50% for mainstream Grade 8 students. The Education Bureau also applied adjusted pass marks for specific groups: special needs students passed with a score of 45% or above, and students in evening or alternative programs needed a score of 48% or above.

Furthermore, the South Ethiopia Education Bureau, in partnership with Qelem Meda, introduced a Telegram bot for result queries. Students and parents can join the official Telegram channel @qelemmedatechnologies and use the bot to retrieve results after providing the student’s exam details.

A mobile app was also made available through the same channel for convenient result checking on smartphones. These multi-channel result access options were publicized in official announcements to ensure that examinees could quickly find out their outcomes.
